"The Spooky Tail
of Prewitt Peacock"
Children's Book by Bill
Peet
Many of Bill Peets stories have become
classics. The "Spooky tail of Prewitt Peacock" tells
the story of a peacock that lived out in the jungle with many
other peacocks, but his feathers were not a source of beauty
to him. In fact, he had scraggly feathers with only two large
eye spots on them. As time went by, Prewitt's tail grew with
larger eyes. The design in is tail feathers even looked like
it had a mouth and eyebrows.
The other peacocks thought his feathers
were ugly, and as it grew they felt that is was actually spooky.
One day the peacocks told him either he had to leave or his tail
feathers had to go. They were too scary to them. He refused and
off they went chasing him into the open field. There they meet
a tiger that would have eating the peacocks, but Prewitt saves
the day with his scary tail feathers. Follow along this story
of a sad peacock that is able to save the other peacocks with
his spooky tail and becomes proud as a peacock.
