"I, Crocodile"
by Fred Marcellino
"While plundering Egypt's mummies,
sphinxes, and palm trees, Napoleon can't resist a souvenir crocodile
as well. All Paris is enchanted by the arrival of this exotic
creature. But for a crocodile with an appetite as big as his
ego, being the toast of the town has its downside, too. If you'r
used to flamingo, snake, and mongoose for dinner, how can you
settle for chocolate moussse? Oh, to return to the beloved Nile!
But fickle Napoleon has other plans for our hero... " This
is a funny tongue in cheek story about how the crocodile goes
to Paris and, when no longer the fancy on the Paris crowds, he
faces becoming dinner one night himself, but escapes by slipping
into the Paris sewers...... A funny book. Parents will want to
make sure that crocodiles dining on unspecting Parisians will
not prove too disturbing to younger children.
This story was inspired by a nineteenth-century
satire by an unknown French author. I, Crocodile is the first
book Fred Marcellino has both written and illustrated."
